Changing Weather Patterns
For many years now we have been hearing dire warnings of Global warming, ice caps melting, a new ice age, tsunamis, earthquakes, volcano eruptions – we’ve seen such a change in weather patterns as Earth gives herself a little shake.
Where were you, the night of ‘The Storm’? It was October 1987 and perhaps heralded the changing weather world-wide. Raging through England from the south east, it swept through the country flattening big trees and changing the landscape. I remember David ringing me and saying it was like WW3 out there. “My, how men do exaggerate” I thought, until it was my turn. The roundabout was blocked. Men with chain saws were trying to clear whole trees. More than a little unusual for England.
Dire warnings of the Greenhouse effect also date from the early 1960s although the concept of ‘global warming’ did not emerge until 1989. We’re led to believe that it’s because of the way we live, though I suggest it could be more to do with natural cycles of things.
There is real evidence now these are real concerns. In November 2020, the Guardian reported that the polar ice caps are melting six times faster than in the 1990s. Sea levels are increasing as the ice melts and thermal expansion increases the volume of water in the oceans, further contributing to this.
Earthquakes and volcanic activity may not be increasing dramatically, but are certainly not on the decline.
Tornadoes and Hurricanes may not be increasing in number but are considered to be more powerful.
Our weather patterns are changing.
