Money Money Money
Money, Politics and Power
Money Politics and Power inextricably linked
Money is ‘the root of all evil’. Or perhaps the grasping need for money is the root of all evil. In some cases lack of money is perhaps the cause. Either way, we’ve lived with money as a rate of exchange for a very long time but in today’s world about 10% of the population is in possession of about 90% of the world’s wealth.
In our so-called modern civilised world, while some people enjoy fast cars, the latest in technology, access to medicine, others have to walk for drinking water.
In the first decade of the 21stC we saw the enormous collapse of the sub-prime housing market and the Icelandic Banks. Pensions and homes were lost and peoples’ lives were turned upside down through no fault of their own.
Our financial world was anything but secure.
I lived through the Cold War when we were afraid of the ‘Red under the Bed’. I was there in the early 1960s for the Cuban Crisis and the terrible assassination of the much-loved Kennedy, seen as the leader of the Free World and the face of good against the might of Khrushchev’s formidable USSR.
Who would ever have believed that we would see the end of USSR in 1991?
Who would have foreseen the Berlin Wall coming down in 1989 after 28 years?
We’ve seen countries split, like in Ireland, countries and their culture destroyed for oil, Trade agreements creating the EU and Brexit as the UK leaves causing havoc.
Our political world was changing.
